A Hult Review by Bharat C. Pereira, Indian One-Year MBA, 2013, Boston

Pre Hult: Manager, Field Maintenance, Zuari Holdings Ltd (Manufacturing)

Unlike other 'traditional' schools, the Hult community is close-knit, and yet surprisingly diverse.
Hult offers a niche and stand-out MBA program. Hult's philosophy of practical business education, case- study approach, action-learning concept, course duration, and choice of global locations are truly in keeping with the practical realities of global business. The course design is also very student centered.

Unlike other "traditional" schools, the Hult community is close-knit, and yet surprisingly diverse. The atmosphere is just electric; you can feel the energy in the air. The classroom is such an amazing amalgamation of cultures, styles, and professional experience. From amateur to seasoned professionals, you can never underestimate the accomplishments or sheer professional or academic quality of the classmates sitting next to you.

My Hult Reviews - The quality of the discussions and intelligent debates are facilitated by the able teaching faculty, which leaves you with the sense of being enriched by every class. I find they all not only teach, but also mentor so well, rendering us aware that they have seen the real cut-throat competition and have knowledge of inside business practices.

Hult's educational philosophy encourages teamwork and forces you to stay one step ahead of the game. We spend time in our teams not only in discussions and debate but also having fun and exploring the city.Content currently not available.

Post MBA, I intend to change my career track. Part of the reason I chose Hult is due to the flexibility the course is designed to instil in students. My long-standing ambition is to be at the helm of public and policy planning in non-profit organizations, providing support to all stakeholders and utilizing my skills in a way that fosters a collaborative environment. The curriculum and emphasis on rigorous teamwork at Hult will definitely help me understand new dimensions and dynamics of sustainable economic and social development.

Hult Reviews by alumni - Natalia Fernandez Cortes

Natalia Fernandez Cortes, Colombian
One-Year MBA, 2013, London
Pre Hult: Research Associate, Colombian Private Council on
Competitiveness (Government/Non-Profit/Education)
I view the MBA from Hult as the Rosetta Stone that I require to achieve my goals.

WHY HULT

Several factors made me single out Hult. First its global reach: different global locations, including London and Shanghai, two cities that I had always wanted to explore, with plans to keep expanding.
Second, Hult's practical education vision and model. I had always thought of an MBA as being more applicable than academic, and I felt the action learning model at Hult provided the clearest path to a practical insight into management.

Third, the dedication offered by Hult's staff throughout the application and recruitment process. Through my Admissions Officer (who was a great guide!) I developed direct empathy with Hult.
Fourth, since my background is in social and public policy, I felt the Global Case Challenge (now known as the Hult Prize) would offer a great balance between a business pro-profit management focus and socially responsible outcomes. This was particularly important and appealing to me.
Fifth, Hult's steady climb up the academic rankings—the school has consistently built its reputation by effectively utilizing its marketing and academic resources.

LIFE AT HULT

Hult is a friendly environment. I find there is a spirit of cooperation and desire to all learn from each other at Hult, rather than an individualised or competitive atmosphere.
In the classroom, I am enjoying many of my modules, even those I would never have expected to! For example, I thought I didn't have the "heart" for Finance, but Professor Soufani teaches the subject in a very applied and pragmatic way, like when he explained the financial crisis comprehensively in one session.

My extra-curricular activities include my membership of the Women's Business Club and soon the Consulting Club, which I think will prove relevant for my next steps. I am organising a Latin American Business Conference. I am also involved in sports at Hult through the Tennis Club.
On and off campus I have an active and varied social life with classmates I have befriended from my course, especially my MBA Module A team! We have established a cultural exchange tradition of gathering to try food from each of our countries together.

Hult Reviews & Global Experiences

I chose the Shanghai campus because I am convinced that understanding China will give me a great competitive advantage both now and in future. I considered full immersion, living and experiencing the culture, the customs, the way they do business, and a little of the language, essential to this end.
I am confident opportunities like the Action Project at a leading firm in Shanghai will open endless doors.I consider London a cultural city that has a lot to offer both personally and professionally. It is home to most of the large firms I have always dreamed to work for, as well as small and medium-sized firms with lots of potential to grow.

MY CAREER

I will explore the world of management consulting after graduation, as I think this field of work will best exploit my current skills. Eventually I plan to start my own business and become a high-level government advisor, and I view the MBA from Hult as the Rosetta Stone I require to achieve my goals.

Meet Hult Reviews for sure quality education.

Alumni Perspective Diego Mendes – Hult Reviews

Brazilian-American One-Year MBA, 2009

Boston User Experience Designer, Chegg (Consumer Goods)

I was attracted by Hult's focus on innovation. While other schools talk about innovation, Hult does it.

I was attracted by Hult's focus on innovation. While other schools talk about innovation, Hult does it. It has turned the MBA education market upside down by designing one of the most fresh and innovative MBA programs around. It took the Social Entrepreneurship world by storm by creating the Hult Prize, partnering with the Clinton Foundation and awarding USD1 million to make the world a better place. Hult students benefit from some of the most innovative and effective business education available in the world today.

Hult's MBA was also affordable; a one-year intensive MBA cut my expenses by half. Being taught by real business practitioners instead of tenured track professors was also really appealing. I wanted to learn about real world situations and having professors who were active in the business world and not just academia was very important for me.

MY LIFE AT HULT

The atmosphere at Hult is competitive, yet collaborative. The campus features very bright students and very challenging professors that are all willing to help you grow.
Professor Julie Yao Cooper was one of the first professors I met at Hult. Knowing about her background working for prestigious consulting groups and Harvard Business School, I was very excited to take her class, if somewhat intimidated. However, she made a real effort to connect with her students, and she became a lifelong mentor to me. My Innovation Management course with Prof. Patel was the most rewarding. The course really helped me establish a framework, which I currently use when designing new products in Silicon Valley. I always brush up on my notes, slides, and case studies from that class. I feel that everyone who wants to work in an innovative company should take the Innovation Management class.

I was one of the leaders of the Hult Innovation Consulting Club and the Latin American Club.
Creating a business plan for Dubai World which focused on innovation and growth opportunities, and which my teammates and I presented to the executive team was the experience of a lifetime. The business context in the Middle East was completely different from my Latin American roots and my home campus in Boston, and yet Dubai World is a global company, hence my team's international experience was extremely important in crafting our plan.

A GLOBAL HULT EXPERIENCE

Hult has not only one of the most international student bodies, but also one of the most diverse faculty teams of any business school in the world.
I started studying in Boston, rotated to Shanghai, and then finished up in Dubai. The amount I grew both personally and professionally was incredible. Being able to complete research projects and internships on other continents, understand different business settings, and learn how to respond to new business challenges I had never seen before was only possible as part of Global Campus Rotation. I would never have been able to learn as much as I did if I had only studied in one country. Today I can fly to any continent and meet up with contacts. All it takes is to grab my phone, look up the city I am traveling to on the Hult app, and invite people to grab a coffee or dinner.

MY CAREER

I am in a much better place in my career than I was before the MBA. I use the case study mentality in tackling real-world business problems every day when I design products in the midst of uncertain markets. I constantly seek knowledge from Hult friends in different industries and regions of the world. Whether it is a question about different tax laws in specific countries, potential connections for business development, or opinions about a new product I am working on, the Hult Alumni Network is always responsive and proactive. I love being a Hultian!

What kind of Career support Hult gives? Student Perspectives & Reviews

James Whittaker, Australian
One-Year MBA, 2013, Boston
Pre Hult: Practice Development Manager, Whittaker Macnaught (Financial Services)
The Hult MBA will enable me to access international markets with greater ease.

I was most attracted by the fact that Hult appeared to be very much an up-and-coming university and I have always been interested in studying for an MBA in the U.S. Some of the other schools I considered did not seem to embrace the shift toward technology, innovation, and an international focus, but I could tell almost immediately that Hult understood it perfectly. The diverse student body, international locations, networking opportunities, and quality of the teaching faculty all added to the appeal.

MY LIFE AT HULT

The Boston campus is an inspiring atmosphere of learning where individuals and small groups meet up throughout the day and night to discuss case studies and class-related assignments as well as their own aspirations and ambitions for the future.

The Hult classroom, while challenging at times, finds people from all over the world offering their perspectives and opinions on a myriad of topics. There's also a strong emphasis on enthusiasm, humor, and having a good time, which helps to revive everyone, especially during times of stress.

I am President of the 2013 Hult Entrepreneurship & Innovation Club. Outside of Hult I have participated in numerous networking events and information sessions throughout Boston, with a particular focus on entrepreneurship and mobile app development. This has enabled me to meet a lot of influential people in the community as well as the brains behind some brilliant start-ups. As for Boston life more generally, I am a member of Crossfit Boston, I've also seen the Red Sox twice and the Patriots once and would highly recommend their games for a fun outing to absorb some of the local culture.
I can't wait to get stuck into the yearly electives that I will be able to take advantage of as a Hult alum.

A GLOBAL HULT EXPERIENCE

Hult's Global Campus Rotation is a big appeal for me. I intend to rotate to Shanghai before returning to Boston for the final module and graduation. With China's growing influence, being able to spend two months in the country's business hub is a tremendous opportunity that will provide me with a unique theoretical and practical experience.

My plan is to start my own business as soon as possible. The MBA has armed me with additional weapons to add to my entrepreneurial arsenal, and I'm confident that my first leap as a business owner won't be a spectacular failure. In fact, with the right planning, I'm confident of my success.

All the subjects so far have contributed to my knowledge of the business world. The networking
Opportunities at Hult should not be understated: the dozens of contacts I developed with people outside of Hult who have given me guidance and insights which have constantly refined my business ideas. The Hult MBA will enable me to access international markets with greater ease.

Hult Alumni Reviews For MBA by Cynthia Kaplan

Cynthia Kaplan, American
One-Year MBA, 1992, Boston
Partner, Executive Search and Talent Development, Delta Top Talent
(Professional Services)

Hult teaches you to be responsive and flexible in a really dynamic world.

When I embarked upon my MBA, I was looking for something to tie my international career together and launch me in a new direction and it certainly did that for me—in a very intense one-year program. My career has never been planned but has been about taking advantage of the opportunities that have come up along the way. Hult teaches you to be responsive and to be flexible in a really dynamic world.

I think that the MBA program is flexible enough to really let your strengths shine and helps you to learn to work with people with other strengths, experience, and cultural backgrounds.  I’m still in touch with some of my classmates. One fourth of July I invited my class up to my parents’ house in Massachusetts and probably fourteen to fifteen people came up and we had a BBQ and they experienced a real American 4th of July, so that was very memorable—being able to share my hometown with my fellow students.

A GLOBAL HULT EXPERIENCE

My time at Hult (then the Arthur D. Little School of Management) exposed me to different global perspectives. Hult gave me the opportunity to meet other mid-level career managers offering different perspectives. It was the whole multicultural experience that I really enjoyed and really benefited from and still do. Later in my career I was asked to head a branch of a Japanese inter-cultural consulting firm. We gave cross-cultural training courses to Japanese companies in Mexico and by that time I had then acquired three cultures. My experience at Hult made me much more culturally aware and able to deal with cross-cultural issues as they came up in my career.

MY CAREER

Former students sometimes get in touch to say that they have graduated from Hult and they’re coming back to Mexico. Depending on their level of experience, I’m well-placed to recommend alumni for positions at my firm or its sister company. I’m happy to offer them a little coaching, or refer their résumé to my colleagues in the headhunting industry. Over the course of the years I’ve probably helped about eight to ten alumni members and I hope to get more involved in the Alumni Association in the future. We’re living in an age where everything is interlinked. I would say alums should really pursue their dreams and take advantage of their alumni network, especially since Hult has grown so large now. Hult Reviews for MBA Alumni Perspective

Alumni Perspective
Priya Sultan, American
Master Degree Programs - Master of International Relations, 2011,
London
Regional Director Europe, Hult Prize, (Government/Non-Profit/Education)

I was drawn to Hult because of the one-year duration of a program that provided considerable international exposure.

WHY HULT

I was drawn to Hult because of the one-year duration of a program that provided considerable international exposure—the option to rotate campuses was very attractive. Hult offered learning from professors who are leaders in their field. I chose the London campus as I consider London a major international hub offering unparalleled networking opportunities. Remaining based in an English speaking country was also an important factor for me.

MY LIFE AT HULT

The atmosphere on campus was always fun and exciting. There were so many students to meet, so the
environment was quite open with people looking to interact with each other.

In the classroom, due to the varied backgrounds of students there was always very interesting class
discussions. The professors were often very inspirational, for instance Professor Mark Spokes is one of the best professors I have ever had. He's extremely knowledgeable about his subjects and forces you to think critically. He was part of the inspiration for my thesis and really taught how to create an unbeatable argument. I was a Hult Student Association (HSA), participated in the Hult Prize (our team won the Hult London internal competition), was voted as a graduation speaker, and joined the Consulting Club for on-campus activities. Off campus I joined a running and crew club. I also joined a society which was focused on the liberal arts.

Some of the most memorable times at Hult London were the events which were planned for us by
Student Services (i.e.: masquerade ball, Halloween party, nights out, etc). It's London, so a pint after
class was a pretty common occurrence. We also hung out in amazing parts of London—Camden Town,
Angel, Shoreditch, London Bridge, Primrose Hill, Marylebone, etc.

A GLOBAL HULT EXPERIENCE

The people you meet at Hult are from all over the globe, so you literally build a global network through your peers at Hult. My network grew tremendously while living in London. I don't think I would have had exposure to the caliber of people that I did living in any other country. The leaders of industries globally base themselves in London, so why not be with the best of the best? I am a fairly active alumnus, I typically attend alumni events in whichever country I am based in.

MY CAREER
Many of your peers go on to do pretty amazing things after their time at Hult. I have remained involved by working for the Hult Prize!

Hult Reviews in the Words of Ms. Deborah Clark

Deborah Clark, American
 2013, London
Pre Hult: Executive Benefits Disability Specialist, Aon (Professional Services)

Hult features an energetic culture steeped in diversity and global awareness—the bond between classmates is very strong and supportive.

How I Chosen Hult

I was intrigued by the prospect of a one-year intensive MBA at Hult versus the usual two and half years. I wanted to know more about the school, so I did my research and then went to one of the alumni named as Hult Reviews gatherings in Atlanta. I was so impressed by quality of people that Hult was attracting. I was also impressed by the positive entrepreneurial attitude of the alumni I met. They were all very informed about campus life.

Lifestyle at Hult

Hult features an energetic culture steeped in diversity and global awareness—the bond between classmates is very strong and supportive. While we are all competitive by nature, we do not battle again one another, but rather challenge each other to make the most of every moment of this experience. The insights that come from having classmates from different industry backgrounds with differing experiences and a variety of international backgrounds provides a broader perspective of the world.

The students' need for knowledge and the professors' desire to facilitate this need creates a symbiotic relationship, which generates higher levels of expectation on both sides. Having open-door access to Hult's deans and staff is one of the most valuable assets on campus. Their expectations drive our ambition, and yet they are passionately supportive in every aspect of our educational experience.

The London Dean, Nawtej Dosanjh is one of the most effective educators at the school. Nawtej or 'Nuff', as we know him, is without a doubt the 'light' that steers us in the right direction. He offers us the strength to meet the demands of the future without fear. When we became frustrated he encouraged us to take a deep collective breath—to broaden our perspectives and become more enlightened. Every lecturer I have encountered at Hult has offered at least one really good piece of advice. But you can always count on Nawtej to listen, ponder, and respond reflectively. Every class with Professor Abdey and Kastner contained an impressive range of memorable quotes. It was the first time I had ever laughed in a math class or cried in an operations class. The lessons from each class often intertwined with those from others. This is how the programs function as a whole, and that makes the MBA modules both challenging and exciting.

If I had to describe Hult in one word, it would have to be FUN! Every day I cross the Thames in the morning and the evening and I never fail to be thrilled by the view. I pinch myself, grin, and scream: ‘I am in LONDON!' I am constantly amazed by the beauty and history of this city and will miss it desperately when I return to the States. But knowing that my friends will be scattered across the globe gives me comfort, as I know that the sun is always shining on Hult alum somewhere across the globe. And, I know I have a place to stay should I end up there one day!

Friendships with classmates were established from our very first team building session: an outing in the rain! That experience created really solid foundations for our future. The team meetings and dinners have helped to develop our friendships in ways we could have never have expected. We learned to listen actively and think before responding. Friendships have been forged that would not have occurred otherwise, and they may in fact be the strongest bonds we can develop. Sixteen of us went to Beirut together for Spring Break and had the best time ever! On campus I am a member of Hult's Global Society of Women in Business and Hult's Social Responsibility Club. I also participate in activities with the Culture Club and the Dinner Club. Outside of school I am a member of the Transport For London's International Toastmasters Club, Tube Talk.

Such a Great Pleasure being Hult Alumni

The clinching factor for me was the Global Campus Rotation program. I've always wanted to take the global mindset of business a step further to understand other cultures first-hand. I also wanted to experience what a change in location could do to broaden my perspectives—I have not been disappointed. In wanting to obtain an MBA, I feel studying at Hult was the best decision I could have made. I will be rotating to Dubai in Module D and then returning to London for Module E. I have chosen Dubai because I want to experience the Middle East in a secure context. As a student there, I will be able to examine the business concepts of global companies which have invested there. For this module, Hult is also offering a great selection of electives and the incredible opportunity to work on developing business solutions for a leading company.

I want to use my MBA to propel my career in a way which will serve humanity and encourage others to strive for more. More can be so many things, but the most important word here is 'strive'. Hult has deepened my knowledge; given me the opportunity to explore life at a deeper level and to encourage others to raise their expectations. Hult is a springboard for opportunity—we just have to be willing to take the plunge.
